If you’re looking for ways to get outside and enjoy the spring weather, look no further! Blacksburg has some amazing outdoor spots and activities for you to enjoy. Whether you’re looking to go for a hike, bike ride, or just take in the scenery, there’s something for everyone. Here are five of our favorites!
-McAfee Knob: McAfee’s Knob, one of the most popular hikes on the Appalachian Trail, is just a short drive from Blacksburg. This 8 mile trail offers breathtaking views from a peak of of 3,197 feet. The hike is challenging but the views from the top are definitely worth it!
-Huckleberry Trail:The Huckleberry Trail is a 13.75 mile rail trail that connects the area’s recreational, cultural and historical assets. The paved trail is a great place to exercise and spend time in nature, and is also an excellent option for individuals wishing to commute to school or work via bicycle.
-Horseback Riding: There are several stables in Blacksburg that offer horseback riding lessons and trail rides. This is a great activity for all ages and a great way to explore the beautiful Virginia countryside!
-Hahn Horticulture Garden: The Hahn Horticulture Garden encompasses nearly six acres of teaching and display gardens on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. The garden features perennial borders, water gardens, shade gardens, a meadow garden, and the Peggy Lee Hahn Garden Pavilion.
-Historic Downtown Blacksburg: A visit to Historic Downtown Blacksburg is a great way to spend an afternoon or weekend. Stroll downtown and enjoy local shops, restaurants, breweries, and much more! Visit the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation, Moss Arts Center, Blacksburg Municipal Park, or one of the many other historic landmarks around downtown.
